‘Bridging Differences Programme’ Toolkit

One of the main results of the Youth IMPACT Erasmus+ Capacity Building project is the Bridging Differences Programme (BDP) Toolkit, which helps organizations, trainers, and youth workers create more inclusive and accessible environments for young people with visual impairments (VI). The toolkit addresses the increasing demand for useful materials that not only increase awareness but also offer specific strategies for meaningfully and empoweringly involving VI youth.

Youth workers, educators, and youth organizations engaged in non-formal education and youth development are the intended audience for the BDP Toolkit. It aims to improve their ability to comprehend the obstacles encountered by young people with visual impairments and modify their strategies accordingly. In addition, it encourages VI youth to actively participate by providing practitioners with resources to promote skill development, inclusiveness, and communication.

The toolkit was developed through a methodical and cooperative procedure. The first step was to conceptualize the material based on the gaps and needs found in inclusive youth work. The creation of theoretical and practical materials came next, and they were evaluated after consulting with experts in inclusion and visual impairment. In order to ensure the toolkit's relevance and usability, feedback was given by the expert which was then incorporated into the toolkit. The toolkit is currently going through a testing phase in order to ensure that all the aforementioned points are covered.

There are two primary sections to the BDP Toolkit. Building awareness and fundamental knowledge is the main goal of the first part, "Understanding & Engaging VI Youth." It discusses the obstacles that young people with visual impairments need to overcome and offers advice on inclusive attitudes, engagement tactics, and successful communication. Everyday skills, communication skills, social skills, employability skills, entrepreneurial skills, digital skills, and media literacy skills are the seven key competencies that are supported by activity-based approaches in the second, more practical part, "Developing Skills."

The methodological approach of the toolkit, which is based on interactive, non-formal learning activities, is one of its key characteristics. Youth workers can directly implement these activities, which include role-plays, group discussions and reflection exercises. Furthermore, the toolkit includes evaluations that enable practitioners to assess learning outcomes and evaluate the efficacy of activities, guaranteeing ongoing progress.

Conclusively, the BDP Toolkit is a useful and adaptable tool that may be used in various organizational settings. It helps create more inclusive youth work practices and enable visually impaired youth to actively engage in society by fusing theoretical knowledge with practical tools.
